OMAHA (KPTM)- Omaha and Council Bluffs are prepared to give residents a fun-filled New Years Eve.
Council Bluffs has arranged their 44th annual First Night celebration. The event focuses on New Years Eve being the "first night" of the new year, and looking forward to the year ahead.
First Night Chair Inky Westfall says the talent line up this year is very diverse, including " the prairie cats, jazz singers, folks singers, a trapeze artist, African culture groups, balloon artists, face painters, clowns, and more."
All the acts will be in indoor venues, and the finale of fireworks will be set off at 9pm.
Westfall continues " we see people coming back year after year, and they love it. It's family oriented, very comfortable, it's like community celebration."
Last year Council Bluffs welcomed around 3000 people to the event. They are hopeful to have a similar, if not better, turn out this year.
Council Bluffs also looks forward to the event as an opportunity to showcase the changes that the downtown area has undergone.
To get into First Night, you need to purchase a First Night button. You can find them at any HyVee location for $10. Children under 12 get in free.
For those celebrating in Omaha, the fireworks display will begin at 7pm, as the capper to the Holiday Lights Festival. It will be choreographed by J&M Displays with the music 104.5.
First National Bank sponsors the lights. Kevin Langin with First National Bank describes"there will be millions of lights here downtown, a whole host of things ranging from opportunities to go the library and children's museum, there's the dickens in the market and things like that, ice skating rink on the Conagra Campus"
Parking will be free in Omaha after 6pm. Officials recommend viewing the display near the Gene Leahy Mall at 1414th and Farnam
