LINCOLN, Neb. (KPTM) - Husker players are expected to learn Tuesday afternoon who will lead their team next year.
A player's meeting has been called for 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Steve Ryan with bigredreport.com says the meeting has been called to announce a new coach, but not to introduce one.
Bigredreport.com also tells FOX 42 that coach is most likely Bo Pelini, who Tom Osborne interviewed Sunday. Pelini was defensive coordinator at Nebraska in 2003.
Flight logs show that a plane owned by a University of Nebraska booster in Norfolk flew from Baton Rouge to Lincoln on Sunday, then to Atlanta, where an Executive Search firm that reportedly contacted Pelini is based. Tom Osborne returned to Lincoln on that plane Monday night. On his arrival, he would only say that he plans to share details on the coach search when appropriate.
Buffalo spokesman Paul Vecchio tells The Associated Press that Osborne has also been given permission to speak with Head Coach Turner Gill. Vecchio says he didn't know when the two would talk.
Gill was the Huskers' star quarterback in the early 1980s and a longtime assistant coach under Osborne and Frank Solich. He left Nebraska in 2004, after Bill Callahan's first season.
