Fatal Police Shooting Under Investigation

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM) - Police say an Omaha police officer shot and killed a 17-year-old boy Sunday night. The officer was making a traffic stop near 31st and Larimore at about 10:15 Sunday night when shots were fired.

The department says that 17-year-old Jovan Reed pointed a gun at the officer, who shot him.

Reed was taken to an Omaha hospital in critical condition, where he died. Police say Reed and two others in the car were documented gang members.

Police say Officer Frank Platt fired the shots. Platt has been involved in two other officer involved shootings, including the shooting death of the man who shot and killed Omaha police officer Jason Pratt in 2003.

Platt and two other officers at the scene are on administrative leave pending a grand jury investigation.
