OMAHA (KPTM) – The 2012 Presidential Election may be over, but it was just the beginning for Omaha voters.

The 2013 Mayoral and City Council Election is April 2nd with a general election in May.

Mayoral candidate Dave Nabity said, "The intensity is going to pick up, it's going to be here before we know it. I still don't think people are going to be ready for the mayor race until January of next year."

And voters like Olivia Manzitto aren't even thinking about 2013, she is just glad the 2012 election is over.

"It is kind of draining after a while, like whenever you go anywhere, that is all that everyone is talking about," she said.

And what is the reason for the voter exhaustion? Election experts tell Fox 42 its because it was a tough 2012 election all across the board, but the biggest reason was the negative campaign ads.

So when will voters in Omaha here from the Mayoral candidates? Some candidates say soon than others.

Kris Pierce, Chairman of the Democratic Party said, "We are going to give them about 45-60 days to take a breath and then we are going to hit them again unfortunately."

Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle's campaign said he is going to hold off on heavy campaigning until after the holidays. Dave Nabity told Fox 42 News he will start in January. While Jean Stothert said she has already started and doesn't plan to take a break.

The primary election is scheduled for April 2nd, 2013. The top two Mayoral Candidates will advance to the general election in May.
