Local Shoppers Ready to Hit Black Friday Sales

Nicole Ebat

OMAHA(KPTM)--It's almost that special day, the one where people come together to be thankful--for the sales that is.

We're talking about Black Friday.

This year a lot of big retailers like Walmart and Target are opening their door earlier than ever. Many of the sales are starting on Thanksgiving.

You couldn't step foot in the mall Wednesday without seeing Black Friday specials hanging amongst the holiday wreaths and stockings.

Shoppers say they're planning on spending more this year, but some are conflicted about pulling out their wallets on a day they traditionally spend with family.

"We think it's kinda bad that people have to work that day and it takes away from the idea of Thanksgiving being family and being thankful," said Brian Steffy. "On the other hand, that's when the sales are. If it's something you really want, that's when you have to go."

He says he and his wife already went through all the ads online to find when stores are opening and to see where the best deals are.

They plan on hitting the first store at 5 a.m. Thanksgiving day and continuing through Black Friday.

While you're out shopping for the big deals, the smaller stores want you to remember they're there for your Black Friday shopping needs too. They'll just be opening late by Black Friday standards.

"We're hoping by 11 o'clock [a.m.] when we open people are done with their electronics and ready to come check out the smaller stores," said AJ Ward, manage at the Be Yourself Boutique.

The store will have specials throughout the weekend, with the biggest amount of money being taken off on Friday. They're also giving away fashionable gifts with purchase all weekend.

Of course there are those who have other plans altogether: "Sleeping and eating, probably leftover turkey, but not shopping," said Ellie Cusic.
