OMAHA (KPTM)- Just over a week ago, the Salvation Army came out and said it needed "thousands" of volunteer bell ringers for this Christmas Season.

Thursday, Salvation Army officials are saying, hundreds of people have volunteered, and those numbers are adding up to more donations, more bell ringers, and a happier holidays for many.

"It's actually a great sound, it's an iconic sound," said Susan Eustice, with the Salvation Army.

Since talking to Fox 42 on Monday, November 26th, Eustice said hundreds more volunteers have picked up a bell and put on a red apron. "Just over a week ago, there are more volunteers signing up."
Eustice said the charity is doing much better.

However, there is one week where they are extremely short on volunteers.

It's the weekend right before Christmas, the 22nd through the 24th of December.

"If you don't have money to give, give of your time," said Eustice.

Eustice said the Salvation Army has reached 42 percent of its $3.1 million goal.

"By my count, it's 15 more days, and that's all," said Eustice.

15 days to raise over one million dollars. "If it's a couple of pennies, or a couple of dollars, it's nice to see that it all adds up," said April Schwetz, a volunteer from HP.
