OMAHA (KPTM) – Friday afternoon Richard Loparco and his crew of Omaha Street Department were busy cleaning up 18th and H Street. The icy road was making it difficult for drivers to safely drive on the street.
"You have pedestrians that want to cross, most of your four ways are icy and cars tend to think you are going slow until you get there and then find out they can't stop," he said.
This wasn't the only street in Omaha where crews were busy scrapping. Dawaune Hayes, a manager with the street department, is hoping the clean up process doesn't take too much longer.
"In our district we have about 20 neighborhoods that we have left to do," he said.
It was raining when the city's first winter storm moved through. The rain then turned to snow and the streets became icy. Now the city is using four graders throughout Omaha to help break up the ice.
Loparco and Hayes wants people to know they are working as fast as they can and hope to have every street done within the next couple of days.
