Water in High Demand at Grocery Stores

OMAHA (kptm) - Businesses all across the city are running out of water.  While some have completely sold out, others are still expecting shipments.  "It's kind of a pain, it's easier to turn on the tap," Amy Smith says.

Council bluffs residents are buying water in bulk.  "We just thought we'd stock up just in case it's a couple days before we get it back," Kim Clark says.

"We actually went to Omaha to get water because I wasn't going to jump from grocery store to grocery store to not find any water so we went to Omaha and picked up some water this morning," Smith says.

While dozens of stores around the city have sold out of water, SuperSaver still has it coming in by the pallets.  Store Director, Steve Petersen says, "Typically a normal day we sell 5 or 6 pallets a day of pretty steady water but this is a big spike in sales."

They said within hours of hearing of the situation they had over 3000 cases delivered to their store and they say they won't run out anytime soon.  "We're able to secure it.  If need be I can call our district center and have more inventory on hand within a couple of hours so we've got a good supply system," Petersen says.

Barley's Bar and Grill has a good supply as well…of beer that is.  After realizing they couldn't serve soda from the gun, they decided to try to help everyone get through this day by lifting their spirits.  "We're also doing beer specials to kind of entice people to come in the door not to be afraid, but come in and still have food and drinks…running a different beer special every hour," Manager Kelsy Young says.

Making the most out of what they have.

Just a reminder, the advisory is in effect until at least noon tomorrow.  And again, that time could change if the water works department deems it necessary.
