Recovering Quadriplegic Gets a Sit-Down Tub

OMAHA (KPTM) – An Omaha man gets a sit-down tub from a company 800 miles away.

Tony Cato Jr. is a former UNL Husker basketball star who was paralyzed during a car accident six years ago.

After eight surgeries he can walk again, but still needs help with certain things; like taking a bath.

"It's a humbling experience any time you loose the ability to do something," he said.

"And you wonder, and wish and pray that you're going to get that back."

His close friend Jennifer Galloway got an idea after a conversation she had with Cato.

"We were talking one day and I asked him what were some of the things that he wished for, and one of those was just to take a bath," Galloway said.

"And I thought, ‘Oh that is just so simple.'"

Galloway called a number of sit-down tub makers.  Nashville based Safe Step Walk-In Tub Co. was the only one to call back.

"You know first I was kind of hesitant," she said, "and I wasn't sure if this was the real thing… I was absolutely flabbergasted."

Cato was just as shocked.

"I was extremely overwhelmed. As someone said, I was actually speechless."

Safe Step marketing manager, Danielle Revelette was there to bring the gift from Tennessee.

"Tony's a great man and he has an amazing story," said Revelette."

"He gives back to the community and Safe Step really wanted to give back to him."

The tub arrived this morning on his doorstep.  Cato says he can't wait for his first private bath in years.

"Well I have a doctors appointment at 10 they said it'd they'll be done later through the day," said Cato.

"I would say just call me after 7, I might be in the tub."
