Omaha Family’s History Wiped Away in EF-5 Tornado

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM)- The Moore Oklahoma tornado has a connection for one Omaha family.

Harry C. Levy helped develop a part of the area that was destroyed by the tornado.

His family said it's hard to see all of his hard work destroyed.

"Stop by the library and stop by the store and get penny candy," said Stephanie Gale.

Gale used to live in Moore.  Her grandfather built her home there.

"Every year that we go back to visit we just always go back and look at our stomping grounds, a place that we used to grow up at," said Stephanie.

Now that home and many more have been destroyed by the EF-5 tornado that touched down in Moore, Oklahoma earlier this week.

"I don't want to go, I don't want to see it, I don't want to see the devastation," said Stephanie. "I can't imagine the people that are there, what they are going through."

"My heart and soul are still in Oklahoma," said Linda Gale, Stephanie's mother.

Linda's father built a shopping center in Moore in the 1960's-that too was destroyed by tornados.

"As I said, it is one of the things I am getting used too," said Linda.

The Gale family in shock, now left only with pictures. "Lots of memories, I mean it is the third time that a tornado has gone through that same direct path," said Stephanie.

The Gale family said they do plan to go back at some point, but don't know what they will see, all of the hard work by their family, destroyed.

"Just have a lot of memories, it is kind of sad it is not there," said Stephanie.

Stephanie said, even though her family's impact on More is gone, they're legacy won't be lost. "They are strong, the will rebuild."
