OMAHA (KPTM) – 15-year-old Calvin Lynn Cotton Jr. was shot on May 23, 2012 near 47th and Meredith. The basketball star from Omaha North later lost his life.

A year later his family will be holding the 2nd Annual Calvin Lynn Cotton Jr. Memorial Basketball 3 on 3 tournament Saturday, June 1st from 11am-3pm. The tournament will take place at the Bryan Center near 24th and Lake. There will also be a dunk and three point contest.

The cost to play is $15 per person. Registration forms must be turned into Shiela Robinson at 5070 Arcadia Circle, Omaha NE 68104 by May 27th.

Proceeds will pay for a memorial fund in Cotton's name. It will also be used for a reward for anyone with information on the shooting. The family also hopes to develop a scholarship to help underprivileged teens attend basketball camps.

Police believe the shooter also killed another teen near the park earlier that day. 16-year-old Trevaughn Hubbard passed away at the hospital a day after the shooting.

Police are still investigating the shooting and are still looking for his killer. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at (402)444-STOP(7867)
