OMAHA (KPTM) – A hit-and-run driver was released from jail Thursday and sentenced five-years of probation—a punishment her victims felt does not fit her crime.

27-year-old Jennifer Hintz spent the morning in a bright orange jumpsuit. It was a look Misty Rocha and Shannon Miller said suited her.

"Because of you I had to learn to walk again," Rocha read her statement to Hintz.

Hintz was driving home from Goofy's Bar in Council Bluffs, Iowa on June 24th when she hit Rocha, Miller and a man. The man was not seriously injured. Rocha and Miller were hospitalized for a couple of months.

Police said Hintz had been speeding and drinking.

"We were hit so hard, Misty and I were both ripped out of our shoes," Miller said.

Miller lost seven her teeth and a part of her tongue. Part of her jaw also broke from the accident. Both Miller and Rocha, who are best friends, suffered many broken bones, bruises and blood clots.

What hurt them the most was that Hintz drove off.

"I don't know if you realize how bad things were when you left us lying in the street," Miller said Hintz.

As tears fell down her face, Hintz apologized to Miller, Rocha and their families. She told them she was "remorseful" for her actions.

Judge J.C. Irvin sentenced Hintz to five-years probation. He told Hintz that she was "getting a tremendous break".

While Miller and Rocha accepted this plea deal and forgave Hintz, they didn't agree with the sentencing.

"I think she'll do it again," Miller continued. "She'll do something again."

Hintz also has to pay court fees and medical costs for the three victims. She can face up to 12 years in jail if she violates her probation.

"Of course we hoped for more," Rocha said. "But we're counting on her messing up on her probation and getting the full sentence."
