Omaha (KPTM) – Habitat ReStore is challenging local interior designers to put a room together with only used or donated house finishings.
The competition is going on at the West Roads Mall, and Restore director David Klitz says you can go and see the displays until July 21st.
"We've put together some really inspirational room vignettes using materials that come primarily from the ReStore," said Klitz, "and a few of the decorative items that come from the Salvation Army thrift store."
Maryian Holden from Designer's Touch says this is her second year participating, and that each room grows into something different from the original design.
"Having to create it, and pull different things – and change a few things," Holden said.
"It always turns out even better I think, than your vision."
Habitat for Humanity owns ReStore. Everything sold there goes to helping lower income families buy homes with zero percent interest mortgages.
"This part is fun," Klitz said, "but at the end of the day when we see one of our partner families move into their brand new house, and we see them begin that new life. That is really what it's all about."
