BELLEVUE (KPTM) – It was a six-hour long standoff in Bellevue Friday afternoon that led police to the arrest of 25-year-old Diego Campos. Police say Campos sexually assaulted an 8-year-old in the 1200 block of Brady Street in Bellevue early Friday morning.

Fox 42 News spoke with the Campos family Friday afternoon and they said they were shocked to hear of the news. They said the 8-year-old was the daughter of Campos' girlfriend. Police believe the attacks have been occurring for sometime.

Police say Campos fled the house Friday morning and hid in a field near 25th Street and Hwy 370. Police say he was hiding inside a culvert and was armed with a knife.

Police say Abel-One of Omaha helped in the search that ultimately led to the arrest. Campos was taken from the scene in an ambulance with unknown injuries. Bellevue Police Chief Mark Elbert said he didn't know how Campos received the injuries.

Diego Campos is from Des Moines, Iowa. His family tells Fox 42 News he was visiting to celebrate the Fourth of July with his family.
