Omaha Police Announce Arrest in Two Omaha Double Murders

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM) - Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer announced Monday afternoon that a former Creighton student has been arrested in the murders of Thomas Hunter, Shirlee Sherman and Dr. and Mrs. Roger and Mary Brumback.

Dr. Anthony Joseph Garcia has been arrested for four counts of first degree murder. Chief Schmaderer says Dr. Garcia lives in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Dr. Garcia was arrested in Illinois by the Illinois State Patrol. Chief Schmaderer says Garcia was being monitored by the task force and the arrest was made Monday when Garcia "became mobile".

When asked, Chief Schmaderer said he and the task force believe Garcia does, "fit the elements of a serial killer".

Dr. and Mrs. Brumback was killed in their West Omaha home in May. Thomas Hunter was the son of Doctors William and Clare Hunter.

Brumback and Hunter worked together in the Pathology Department of Creighton University. Chief Schmaderer says Dr. Garcia was fired from the university by Brumback and Hunter. Garcia was fired for erratic behavior.

Chief Schmaderer says the special task force created after the Brumback murders found evidence that Garcia was in Omaha during both murders.

We will have more on this developing story tonight on the FOX 42 News at Nine.
