Scoreboard Stolen from Omaha Football Park

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA (KPTM)-  A scoreboard was stolen from an Omaha youth football park.

According to police reports, the scoreboard was valued at $4,000.

It was stolen from the Jerry Parks Youth Football complex around September 11th, according to police reports.

"You can't play because there's no electricity, there's nothing," said Ron Ross.

Ross coaches ‘Lil Vikes Midget Football.' He said his players practiced at the complex during the 2011 flood.

"It was a nice set up, we liked it," remembered Ross.

The scoreboard isn't the only thing to have gone missing at the park. Copper thieves have stolen wires from the other scoreboard and cleaned out all 16 of the lights on the field.

Ross said after they had practiced there, all the electrical wiring was stolen from the building on the field. "As soon as we left, they broke in, went right to the electrical panel," said Ross.

Vandalism and thefts are growing in Omaha.  According to, vandalism and thefts make up half of all the crimes committed in Omaha since August.

"What they get out of it would be peanuts, a hundred bucks maybe," said Ross.

Ross said the thieves make away with a lot more than some copper wiring. "I hate to see anybody steal, but don't do it to the youth. I mean, the need this to play," said Ross.

Fox 42 reached out to Omaha city parks to see if the board will be replaced, no comment as of yet.
