OMAHA (KPTM) – Many people were left to pay for damage done to their cars that they did not do. Omaha Police said cars at apartment complexes in Omaha were randomly targeted in one night. The vandalism first happened on the north side, then the south and then near 72nd and Spring Street.
Last Thursday around 10:30 p.m. police said someone used a BB gun to shoot at eight cars at Spring Acres Apartments.
Residents said they were shocked at the vandalism because the apartment complex does not have a history with crime.
The car owners' front and back windows were shattered and they all had to pay out of pocket for their insurance deductibles to get the damage fixed.
While the vandalism caused a financial inconvenience, they admitted they were glad they had insurance, but wanted reassurance from the apartment's management that the incident would not happen again.
"We should have surveillance cameras over here so that we can catch the person who broke and vandalized our cars," said Wakilongo Lwesso who had to pay $1,000 to fix his two cars.
The apartment said it would consider having the security patrol the complex more than three times a week, but had no plans to install security cameras.
