UPDATE: Omaha Police arrested a man in connection with the killing of 21-year-old Brandon Samuels.

On Monday, Laron M. Jones, 23, was booked at Douglas County Corrections for 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm to commit a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

OMAHA (KPTM) – Omaha Police Department is investigating a deadly house party shooting that happened early Friday morning.

Police said they found 21-year-old Brandon Samuels suffering from a gunshot wound near 24th and Ida Street. Paramedics gave Samuel CPR on the way to Creighton University hospital. Samuels died from his injuries at the hospital.

Several witnesses are being questioned.

According to friends and witnesses, the shooting was a result of a man arguing with the mother of his child.

One man told FOX 42 News, the man barged into the party and yelled for the woman to come outside. When she refused, he said, the man dragged her by her hair. The man and two other men with him ran away and returned with gunfire.

"The gang, the fighting for no reason, the childish high school drama we still hold onto, it's not worth it," said Samuels' best friend Brandy Beckwith.

Beckwith, Samuels' parents and others attended a prayer vigil Friday night to remember his life and to tell the community to "put the guns down".

"These kids with these guns nowadays, it ain't the answer no more," Samuels' father, Kelly Byers continued. "It ain't the answer. They all think the answer is pulling the trigger and they don't know what they're doing until they pull the trigger and there are consequences."

Byers and Samuels' mother, Terri Partridge asked that there be no retaliation and for people to allow law enforcement to do its job.
