OMAHA (KPTM) - Strong winds toppled garbage cans, construction barriers and even basketball hoops in the north part of town Tuesday.

By late afternoon, a mound of leaves, trash and debris sat at the corner of 24th and Lake Streets.

"With crazy weather like this, your bad spots are made even worse," said Tim Clark, executive director at Love's Jazz and Arts Center.  "So we have some spots here that just need to be cleaned up."

"Anytime you see garbage piling up, there's nothing pretty about garbage pile up," added Janet Ashley, also of Love's Jazz and Arts Center.

Strong gusts even knocked over a street sign setting the stage for the next phase: the cleanup.  You can bet, however, it won't be the last.

"The weather here is so unpredictable," said Clark.  "I kind of look at it as a sign of the times.  One day it can be 70 degrees and the next day it can be 30 degrees."

At the height of Tuesday's windstorm there were more than 2,500 reported power outages throughout the Omaha metro area.  Most of those have now been fixed.
