OMAHA (KPTM) - Battered sidewalks in need of maintenance will receive attention following a decision by the Omaha city council to fix what's broken.

The repairs will impact parts of the southeastern and northwestern parts of town.  It's something several people FOX 42 News spoke to Tuesday say is long overdue.

"It's just been getting worse and worse," said Miguel Vazquez, who's bothered by a walkway near 46th and L Streets.  "It doesn't look like it's been fixed in a while."

Vazquez adds sprucing up the area around him is crucial because in some places little pieces of the sidewalk come right off.  He believes that could cause people to trip and possibly get hurt.

"I go up and down these streets everyday and see how it's unbalanced and cracked.  It's hard."

That's why he hopes someone will take a look at his neighborhood in the near future.

"That would be awesome if they could do that."

It's estimated the total cost of both projects could exceed $90,000.
