OMAHA (KPTM) – The dailycommute in a part of south Omaha and midtown may get jammed starting Saturdaymorning.
Starting Friday night,drivers won't be able to hop on Interstate 80's westbound lane from 42ndStreet. The Nebraska Department of Roads' Omaha office will close the entranceramp until late fall in order to complete a project that will add a sixth laneon the highway.
Currently on I-80 west thereare five lanes. NDOR will add the sixth lane to the north side of westbound I-80from 24th Street to 60th Street.
Karl Burns of NDOR said thenew lane was being added to reduce heavy traffic on the highway from 24thto 60th streets.
Drivers in the area wereadvised to take the 60th Street, 72nd Street or 84thStreet entrances to get onto I-80 West.
Burns said NDOR hopes tocomplete the project by November 2014.
