The Naked Turtle™ Rum and Sea Turtle Conservancy Team Up for Year Two of Supporting Darker Shores for Nesting Turtles

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 5, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Naked Turtle Rum and Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) are stoked to announce the second year of Kill the Lights, Save the Turtles. Kicking off on May 10th, marquee events across five states will encourage beachside residents and businesses to help protect nesting turtles by turning off or replacing artificial lighting with special turtle-friendly lights. These lights help to ensure turtle hatchlings do not become disorientated and encourage them to migrate toward the sea rather than inland. Through the events and a social media call to action, likeminded individuals will be invited to join the movement to raise awareness for their hard-backed buds.

The Naked Turtle(TM) Rum and Sea Turtle Conservancy Team Up for Year Two of Supporting Darker Shores for Nesting Turtles

"Kill the Lights, Save the Turtles helps to educate beach residents on the importance of turtle-friendly beachfront lighting," explains David Godfrey, Executive Director at STC.  "We're more than excited to continue our mission with The Naked Turtle in a both educational and celebratory manner while spreading the message to more people in year two."

On May 10th, turtle-lovers throughout Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama and Hawaii are being challenged to turn off their artificial, beachfront lighting and attend Kill the Lights. Save the Turtles events. Attendees will have an opportunity to raise a glass and kick back responsibly in support of the cause and celebrate the start of the nesting season.

But what about those that can't make it to the parties? They can still help by tweeting "Kill The Lights" @nakedturtle during the month of May. For every tweet, Naked Turtle will make a contribution in support of STC's lighting retrofit initiative*.

"The Naked Turtle is pumped to be a part of the growing excitement around the importance of turtle-friendly lighting during nesting season," explains Ryan Hunter, Marketing Guy at The Naked Rum Co. "Expanding Kill the Lights to more markets will help us share our passion for helping out our turtle friends all while kicking back and having a good time."

*Up to a maximum of $5,000.

About The Naked Turtle White Rum
The Naked Turtle white rum is five times distilled using the pristine waters of the U.S. Virgin Islands and made with the finest sugarcane molasses.  It's then bottled "naked," never touching the inside of an oak barrel, which allows the delicious character of the rum to shine through.  We think it's as good as rum gets.  Don't Worry. Drink Naked™
