OMAHA (KPTM) - For the past ten years Dr. Scott Hofmann never missed a day of work, but that all changed this week after thieves stole a segway he counts on to get from one place to another.

Hofmann, an anesthesiologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center who also suffers from multiple sclerosis, discovered his two-wheeler was missing Wednesday when he showed up at UNMC and couldn't find it in the parking garage where he left it.  Snapshots taken from surveillance video captured the theft, but so far no arrests have been made.  A UNMC spokesperson says she's convinced the truck seen on the security camera had the segway in it.

"I just want it back," said Dr. Hofmann, who has been using a segway for the past ten years.

The doctor also questions why crooks would target his vehicle considering such a move is risky.

"I don't know if it has much value.  It's such a specific item.  To sell it on Craigslist or eBay or whatever, it's going to be easy to identify I would think."

While he waits for his segway to turn up, Dr. Hofmann will use a different vehicle his way gave up to him for Christmas.  With this one, he vows to be more careful and is now thinking about storing his segways somewhere other than a parking garage.

If you have a tip that could lead to an arrest, you're urged to give the Omaha Police Department a call.  That number is (402) 444-5600.
