PHILADELPHIA, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) will visit two regional health facilities focused on brain disease tomorrow, Tuesday, June 3. In between visits, he will also participate in Mastery Charter Schools' College Signing Day with 450 graduating seniors from around Philadelphia. The visits to Capital Health Regional in central New Jersey and Saint Joseph University's Kinney Center are part of Congressman Fattah's ongoing work to elevate neuroscience as a national priority and increase funding for brain research through the Fattah Neuroscience Initiative. Tomorrow evening, Fattah will also offer remarks and join students and staff at the Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School for their end of the year program.

Site Visit at Capital Health Regional's Institute for Neurosciences: During the visit to the health center's Institute for Neurosciences, Congressman Fattah will tour the Institute-one of the region's most comprehensive, state-of the-art facilities, and meet with Capitol Health's CEO and other leadership at the medical center. Drexel University Medical School's Dean, Dr. Elisabeth Van Bockstaele, will also join for the tour and briefing. The Institute draws patients from across the Delaware Valley and offers several specialized centers of care for brain diseases ranging from stroke and TBI, to epilepsy and dementia.

Remarks at Mastery's College Signing Day: Fattah, who is one of Congress' most vocal advocates for college access and a longtime Mastery supporter, will deliver remarks at the ceremony celebrating the academic achievements and college commitments of the senior classes at Philadelphia's Mastery Charter Schools. On Tuesday, 450 seniors will be committing to over 99 institutions of higher education. Following his address, Fattah will help introduce the Mastery Charter Class of 2014 pledge. Fattah's Philadelphia district includes 10 Mastery School campuses.

Tour of Saint Joseph's University's Kinney Center for Autism Education and Support: Congressman Fattah will join the Executive Director of the Kinney Center to learn more about the facility and its impact on the field of autism. The Center provides multi-disciplinary education and research opportunities for students, teachers, professionals, and parents looking to improve opportunities, outcomes, quality of life and best practices in treatment for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Following an update and center tour, Fattah will participate in discussions with undergraduate Kinney SCHOLARS, as well as program staff.

Address to Friends of Harambee Institute: Fattah concludes his day with remarks at the Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School. One of Philadelphia's first charter schools and the Commonwealth's first African-centered charter, Harambee uses science and technology to empower its students to become active members of their community. The end of the year program will feature remarks from local elected officials, as well as performances from Harambee students and staff.
