Set to return next month with four days of original Americana music, the Mile of Music festival will feature more than 200 artists and 600 live performances in Northeast Wisconsin. As anticipation grows, the festival planning team announces some of the fun features in store for attendees along the music-filled mile stretch of Downtown Appleton.

Appleton, WI (PRWEB) July 09, 2014

In just its second year, the Mile of Music festival dubbed Mile 2 has become a highly-anticipated event in Wisconsin with the countdown to its return now at less than 30 days.

The festival will run August 7-10 and has grown from a line-up of 100 performers in its debut last summer to more than 200 this year, with nearly 600 live performances expected at 60+ venues throughout the walkable Downtown Appleton mile.

Distinctive in that it focuses exclusively on original Americana music, many new artists will appear at Mile 2 and several of the performers from 2013 are returning to participate.

We have a really unique vibe going here in Appleton with the emphasis on original, hand-crafted music, said Dave Willems, co-founder of the Mile of Music festival. The overwhelming response from our returning artists is that they dont just want to show up to do a few new tunes and then head to their next gig. They want to be part of the whole experience.

That experience includes a variety of fun, spontaneous features from the planning team that is helping shape Mile of Music as a one-of-a-kind national music festival in the Appleton community. A few of those features include:

  • Pop-up performances, where artists will appear unannounced at various venues throughout the Downtown mile to play for fans
  • Scheduled mystery performances, where artist names wont be unveiled until the curtain rises and money raised will benefit local music education
  • The return of the popular Mile of Music Bus, with surprise appearances by performers who will ride the route with fans throughout the weekend

The festivals planning team has announced more than 180 of the artists set to appear in August with Appleton native Cory Chisel, a national recording artist and singer-songwriter, returning as event co-founder, music curator and headliner.

With Chisels direction, Mile of Music has recruited a variety of fan favorites from 2013 and new performers, ranging from The Baseball Project (featuring members of R.E.M.) and the Milk Carton Kids to The Autumn Defense (featuring members of Wilco) and Chelsea Crowell. Performers hail from Wisconsin and Chicago all the way to Nashville, Boston, Seattle and Los Angeles.

We have an exceptional lineup of talent appearing at Mile 2 this summer, Willems said. This festival really provides the perfect stage for artists who are looking to showcase new music in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Many of the live performances will be offered free to the public, thanks to significant support from nearly 100 sponsors. A limited number of VIP Priority Access Passes are also available and now on sale through the festival website.

The Mile of Music is an artisan festival that kicked off in August 2013 and featured over 100 singer-songwriters and bands performing live in Downtown Appleton, Wis. It is a collaborative event that was co-founded by Appleton marketing executive Dave Willems and Nashville-based national recording artist Cory Chisel, with support from dozens of community organizations, sponsors and volunteers.
