Mario Patricio Celi Oña's "Duelo Pacifico" seeks to explain the reasons for the underdevelopment of Latin America relative to the more rapid progress of the United States.

(PRWEB) July 10, 2014

Why has Latin America always seemed to lag behind the United States? Looking back to the colonial period, author Mario Patricio Celi Oña argues that the US possessed the key natural resources that fuelled the process of industrialization: wood and iron. He examines other important factors that shaped the pace of development in the Americas: religion, culture, and demographic changes. In order to expand and deepen his analysis, he offers a comparative study of the rise of other extra-European powers, such as Russia and Japan, at the end of the 19th century. Finally, he looks to the future with a consideration of the importance of Latin Americans in the United States today.
