The International Concussion Organization is hosting its 1st Annual Concussion Symposium at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square, New York on July 17th to explore solutions to the growing concussion epidemic that is plaguing athletes in nearly all sports and at all levels of competition.

The Symposium gathers more than a dozen internationally prominent physicians, PTs, ATs, researchers, coaches, professional athletes and legal scholars for engaging and uniquely relevant scientific presentations and round table discussions. Dr. Javier Cardenas, concussion consultant for the NFL; Dr. Jeff Kutcher, concussion advisor to the NBA; Dr. Micky Collins, founder of ImPact; Dr. Marla Shapiro, consultant for the NHL spearhead the esteemed group of Luminaries.

The International Concussion Organizations Founder, Barry French, Jr, states; The ICOs primary mission is ensuring that finances are not a limiting factor in providing quality baseline concussion testing for every athlete throughout the country, regardless of his or her socioeconomic status. Its mission also includes the preparation and delivery of educational materials regarding concussion, its prevention, symptoms, and short and long-term effects, for all stakeholders: parents, athletic directors and those who care for our student athletes on the sidelines. This is vital to the health and safety of our youth athletes and the sports we love that are suffering lower levels of participation due to the fear generated by the alarming incidence of concussion.

A baseline concussion assessment, administered pre-season, when the athlete is healthy, can be a valuable data point for the clinician who manages post-concussion recovery, including assisting in the decision regarding the appropriate time for return-to-play.
