CAPITOLA, CA, August 12, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On July 30, Capitola said goodbye to the small duplex located just under the train trestle that had occupied 401 and 403 Capitola Avenue for over 100 years. For Starley Bullard-Moore, it was a bittersweet day. The demolition was an event that marked both a "goodbye" to the memories that were made in that little duplex, as well as a great step forward for Bullard-Moore's company, Charley & Co. With architectural plans and the legalities of owning the property being taken care of, this address on Capitola Ave. will soon occupy the new home of Bullard-Moore's Charley & Co. sometime in early 2015.
"There was a point during the fall of the building when I was struck with sorrow as it fell down like match sticks with the help of the demolition backhoe," said Bullard-Moore. "I grasped a life lesson firmer than I ever had before. This life we each have is fleeting. The world most definitely will continue turning long after we are gone. It is up to us to make this time the absolute best we can and leave something good when we depart!"
History of 401 and 403 Capitola Ave.
In 2011, the little duplex that was located at 401 and 403 Capitola Ave. was red-tagged and deemed inhabitable after two floods that caused much destruction in Capitola Village that same year. In fact, many businesses never made it back after that event. "But after a couple of years and a lot of hard work, the village was hustling and bustling once again," said Bullard-Moore. "The average visitor would never have guessed such a catastrophic event had happened, which speaks highly to the very nature of the people who call Capitola home."
Bullard-Moore added, "As is the case with most difficult times, growth shortly follows. At least that is what has been the case for me." About a year after the flood the building went up for sale and stated that she was "lucky enough" to purchase it. And although she describes the process as an uphill battle due to the time and red tape involved with such projects, Bullard-Moore also shared that she will never regret the time it took to get to this point, calling it a "learning experience".
A New Home for Charley & Co.
Bullard-Moore describes Capitola as a great place to spend the next chapter of her life as Charley & Co. re-locates to its new home. She believes that the new building that will soon inhabit 401 and 403 Capitola Ave. will be a great contribution to the City of Capitola as well as to her legacy. "The new Charley & Co. will do the village of Capitola proud, and it will be my own personal little welcome to all of those who have chosen to spend some time with us here!" said Bullard-Moore.
